Introducing ABSTARR’s New Online Course: A Flexible Pathway to Cultural Safety Learning

ABSTARR is proud to announce the launch of our new self-paced online course — Introduction to Aboriginal Knowledges & Cultural Safety — designed to make foundational learning more accessible, flexible, and grounded in authenticity for individuals and organisations alike.

In response to ongoing requests for a learning option that supports busy schedules, diverse workplaces, and varied levels of familiarity with cultural safety concepts, this new program offers a guided entry point into what cultural safety truly means — and why it matters now more than ever.

Why Cultural Safety?

Cultural safety is not the same as cultural awareness, capability, or competence.
It is deeper.
It is relational.
It is strategic.
It deals with racism, intended or unintended.

It requires reflection, accountability, and a genuine commitment to creating environments where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples feel safe, respected, and heard.

This course supports learners to shift from simply knowing about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples to understanding the systems, structures, and power dynamics that shape experiences — and how to actively contribute to safer, more equitable spaces.

Grounded in authenticity, evidence, lived experience, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander knowledges, this offering reflects the depth and integrity our practitioners bring to every aspect of ABSTARR’s work.

What’s inside this introductory course?

This introductory 3-module program has been thoughtfully developed by ABSTARR practitioners and draws on best practice, community expertise, and years of on-the-ground experience.
